Urgent Call for Clarity on EU Deforestation Regulation: A Collective Plea from Industry

Today, CAOBISCO together with a coalition of organizations representing various sectors affected by the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) reached out to Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, expressing their gratitude for the recent updates provided during the Commission’s Expert Group meeting. Despite differing views on the regulation’s implementation, we have united to request for the immediate release of updated Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) and guidance documents to address the concerns raised on the Information System. Without these essential resources, compliance with the EUDR will be significantly hampered, creating uncertainty and undermining their substantial investments toward meeting the regulation’s goals.

The letter highlights the pressing need for clarity and effective tools to aid industry stakeholders in navigating the EUDR’s requirements. By delaying the publication of these resources, the European Commission risks creating obstacles for businesses as they strive to align with sustainability objectives while adhering to new legal obligations. We urge the Commission to prioritize the dissemination of guidance and tools in the coming days, recognizing that a collaborative approach is vital for both protecting and restoring the world’s forests and ensuring economic viability for the industries involved.
