CAOBISCO Supports an Ambitious and Balanced EU–Thailand Free Trade Agreement
As negotiations on the EU–Thailand Free Trade Agreement approach their conclusion, CAOBISCO reiterates its support for an ambitious and balanced agreement that strengthens the competitiveness and resilience of Europe’s chocolate, biscuit and confectionery industry. The Association believes the agreement presents an important opportunity to improve market access for European value-added food products while enhancing the resilience of supply chains for key ingredients.
Thailand is already an important export destination for European confectionery, with exports exceeding €60 million in 2024. Reducing import tariffs and establishing practical, business-friendly Rules of Origin would help European companies—particularly SMEs—benefit from new commercial opportunities and compete more effectively in one of Southeast Asia’s fastest-growing markets.
CAOBISCO also underlines the importance of improved access to agricultural products and food ingredients, including sugar. More diversified and reliable sourcing options are essential to support Europe’s food manufacturing sector, strengthen supply chain resilience and maintain the industry’s global leadership in quality, innovation and exports.
