CAOBISCO Calls for Swift Resolution on EUDR Inter-Institutional Negotiations to Ensure Transition Clarity
CAOBISCO – the Association representing the chocolate, biscuits and confectionery industries of Europe– and its members acknowledge the European Commission’s recent proposal for a one-year postponement of the European Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) and welcome the Council’s decision to adopt the Commission’s proposal without further amendments.
We also acknowledge Parliament’s decision to introduce additional amendments to the Commission’s proposal during last week’s Plenary vote. This decision unfortunately increases uncertainty regarding the EUDR’s application, as formal negotiations are now required, raising the risk of delays to the current timeline.
We urge the Council and the European Parliament to swiftly conclude inter-institutional negotiations. A prompt approval of the amending regulation is essential to secure the additional 12-month transition period and mitigate the escalating legal uncertainty, which benefits no stakeholder involved in the EUDR implementation.
CAOBISCO and its members remain fully committed to continued preparation to ensure readiness for the EUDR’s requirements when they come into effect.
