Chocolate, biscuits & confectionery of Europe

Mar 25,2014  -  Sweet Declaration to MEP Candidates

CAOBISCO Sweet Declaration for 2014 European elections calls on the candidates and future Members of the European Parliament to give due consideration to the following priorities in their policy and regulatory approach:

  • Support and promote the culture, savoir faire and tradition of chocolate, biscuit and confectionery manufacturing in Europe to sustain long-term employment. The sector directly employs more than 300.000 people in Europe (source: Eurostat).

  • Contribute to the development of a flexible legal framework allowing chocolate, biscuit and confectionery enterprises to produce traditional as well as new creative products. Our aim is to offer a wide range of products that bring pleasure and benefits to the consumer.

  • Create a competitive environment for European chocolate, biscuit and confectionery businesses, in particular small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) which represent more than 99% of the sector.

  • Facilitate the trade of agricultural commodities and finished goods globally.

  • Develop appropriate public policies and co-invest with the private sector on initiatives to transform global commodity supply chains into sustainable models.
